Karintō is a classic Japanese snack whose origins date back to 1830–1841, when it was already offered by street vendors. His popularity increased especially towards the end of the Edo period (1600–1868). The speciality consists of small, deep-fried dough sticks that are glazed with sugar and refined with golden sesame. Its taste is slightly sweet and savory at the same time, has a gentle effect and awakens nostalgic memories. The special thing about Karintō is that the dough sticks are fried in temple oil. As a result, they oxidize less quickly, stay fresh longer and get a particularly crispy texture. Thanks to their handy size, they are uncomplicated to eat and are ideal as a snack in between.
