JUERG STAEHELI
Drinking cup Japanese-style JS
1 Becher / D: 7.5 cm / H: 8.5 cm / SchweizInspiration from the work of Jürg Stäheli.
Jürg Stäheli is a trained sculptor who works with stone, clay and plants. For around 40 years, he has been intensively involved with bonsai and the associated bonsai ceramics. His artistic work is strongly influenced by Japanese ceramics and culture, resulting in tea bowls of particular expressiveness, among other things. He makes these from stoneware clay mined in the Westerwald (Germany) and fires them at 1250 degrees. Stäheli works with slab and kurinuki techniques and is always seeking to explore the limits of form and glaze. At the heart of his work is the artistic exploration and perception of materials. It is the sensory experience of the objects that constantly challenges and inspires him.
