Barley tea (Japanese: 麦茶 mugicha) is a popular drink in East Asia that is made from roasted barley grains. The name is made up of the Japanese word for barley (Japanese 麦, mugi) and the word for tea (Japanese 茶, cha).

To prepare barley tea, the roasted barley grains are either infused with hot water or steeped cold for 1-2 hours. The drink can be enjoyed both hot and cold. It is characterised by a light brown colour and a slightly sweet, tart aroma, with a characteristic barley taste in the aftertaste. Barley tea is particularly popular in summer as a refreshing iced drink.
