The AEKA series soup bowl, named after the Japanese word for delicate and ephemeral beauty, features an elegant form rising gracefully from its slender foot. Each piece is unique, with natural variations in wood grain and color.

Gato Mikio Shoten, founded in 1908, carries on the tradition of master woodturners, focusing on the precision of the wooden base that forms the foundation of lacquerware. In recent years, collaborations with designers and advanced lathe techniques have produced lacquerware that combines high functionality with refined artistry.

Care Instructions: Not microwave or dishwasher safe. Gently hand wash and allow to air dry.

Yamanaka Lacquerware
Yamanaka lacquerware, one of Japan’s five major traditions, highlights the natural beauty of wood grain. Using the unique “vertical wood cutting” technique, these pieces resist warping and are built to last. Delicate lathe work, such as sensuji and arasugi patterns, adds fine decorative detail, resulting in elegant bowls, thinly turned vessels, and lidded containers.
